Gaughan Wins Again
Defending champion Brendan Gaughan needed 88 laps to take the lead, and 172 to hold off the rest of the field in winning the NASCAR Winston West Food 4 Less 250 Saturday night in front of 6,252 spectators at Irwindale Speedway.
Johnny Borneman III finished second, 1.175 seconds behind Gaughan, who won his second consecutive race at the track. San Marino’s Sean Woodside was third, followed by Mike David and Steve Portenga.
Gaughan took the lead from Woodside and pulled away from the pack, pursued closely by Kevin Richards of Spokane, Wash. They began trading the lead on Lap 112, before Richards had to pit for fuel on Lap 120. Gaughan pitted on Lap 132, surrendering the lead to Troy Cline, but was back in front by Lap 140 and didn’t trail again.
Tim Woods won the Super Late Model main event, holding off Woodside and David Gilliland.
