Man Charged With Six Killings Goes to Court

A 26-year-old Orange County man charged with killing six people throughout the state appeared Monday in an El Monte court for the first time since his arrest in Costa Mesa last week.

Anh The Duong stood in a doorway at the Rio Hondo courthouse, blocked from media photographers. A judge agreed to postpone until Aug. 9 Duong’s arraignment on charges of murdering four people in an El Monte nightclub in 1999.

Duong has been on the run for two years and at one time was featured on TV’s “America’s Most Wanted.” Duong arrived in leg chains, wearing shoulder-length hair and a scraggly goatee. He briefly motioned with his eyebrows at onlookers he apparently recognized, then answered the judge’s questions and was removed.

Duong also faces charges in a robbery and slaying in San Jose in 1997 and one in Fremont in 1998.
