Bicyclist, 34, Injured in Collision With Car
A 34-year-old man suffered major head injuries and was in grave condition after being struck by a car while bicycling in Ventura on Saturday morning, police said.
Jesus Ricardo Rivera of Oakley in Contra Costa County was being treated in the intensive care unit at Ventura County Medical Center, according to a nursing supervisor.
Rivera was riding west in a bicycle lane on Telephone Road near Westinghouse Street when he pedaled into the path of a car driven by Nicholas Charles Bishop, 21, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Bishop swerved but could not avoid the collision, police said. He was not injured and was not cited. The crash remains under investigation. Ventura police officials said Rivera was wearing a helmet, but it shattered on impact.
