Hospital: 27% of Births Were by Moms Over 35

From Times Staff Reports

When officials at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center recently reviewed their baby statistics for the past fiscal year, they found two surprises--the high number of multiple births, and a significant number of women older than 35 giving birth.

Multiple births jumped 56% over the previous year. Also, 27% of the women who gave birth there were older than 35. That's much larger than the 3.8% of women of that age group nationally who gave birth, hospital officials said.
