Meningitis Diagnosed in 3rd High School Student

An 18-year-old high school student was diagnosed with meningitis, which within a week has caused the deaths of two other young adults in Alliance.

The girl was hospitalized in critical condition with Neisseria meninigitidis, a hospital official said.

Doctors expected to know by today whether the three cases were the same strain, the official said.

Two students from a second high school died in the past week after being diagnosed with Neisseria meninigitidis, a form of meningitis with various strains. It is spread by close contact, health officials said.
