Blues Note: On Friday, my husband, Sean McGarry, and I like to go to King’s in Calabasas for beer and oysters. They have great oysters. King’s is a restaurant where they play great blues music, and have a live blues band a few nights a week.

Crunch a Brunch: Sometimes we like to take a drive on Mulholland Highway and go through the canyons to Taverna Tony’s in Malibu. They have these crunchy little fishes; they’re kind of like sardines, deep-fried, and you put lots of lemon on them. And we get a big dish of them and maybe some hummus and some vodka or grappa.

Stop and Grow the Roses: I have a few gardens--a vegetable garden, a flower garden and a pumpkin patch. It’s a lot of work, but it’s fun. I love to go to Sperling Nursery in Calabasas, where I get a lot of seeds and plants. (But I do fill in with Home Depot.) They make really delicious popcorn, and it’s so huge you can just wander around past fountains and ponds.

Run for the Border: The Border Grill in Santa Monica is one of our favorite restaurants. They have a great vegetarian platter, and green corn tamales, and a great marinated skirt steak. Everything is just delicious, and the house margaritas are amazing. It’s always packed and noisy. Then we might go to the blues club across the street, Harvelle’s, which is a nice, easy-going, laid-back room.

City Life: Recently, we went to Ciudad and to see the L.A. Philharmonic play Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, one of my favorite pieces. The restaurant has a shuttle, so you can have a drink and not worry about driving, and then come back afterward for coffee and dessert. You know, you forget about downtown, and you go, and say, “Wow! There’s a city here!”

Home Life: Sunday we stay out on our patio and read the New York Times and the L.A. Times cover to cover and drink a huge pot of coffee. Until recently on Sunday nights we made a big Italian dinner--olives and cheese and bread and pasta--and watched “The Sopranos.”
