Man Fined, Sentenced in Toner Cartridge Scam
From Times Staff Reports
A Woodland Hills man was sentenced to 120 days in jail Wednesday for a scam in which he duped schools or companies into accepting overpriced toner cartridges, the city attorney’s office said.
Christopher M. Spencer, 31, posed as a telemarketer for his business, Tenth District Supply, collecting information on businesses and then arranging for another company to ship the toner though it had not been ordered, officials said.
Spencer was also fined $3,000. Instead of jail, he can opt to spend 45 days on a work crew.
