City Study to Focus on Mobile Home Parks
The Thousand Oaks City Council has voted to spend up to $10,000 to hire a consultant to study whether mobile home park owners would be interested in selling their land to tenants.
Council members Linda Parks and Ed Masry had proposed converting rental parks to resident-owned parks as one way to preserve affordable housing for senior citizens and lower-wage workers in a city where apartments are scarce and houses are expensive.
Federal, state and private grants and loans exist to help tenants buy mobile home parks. A recent city study identified 864 mobile home units for seniors citywide and 193 for families. But several park owners have told city officials they are not interested in selling.
