Cheaper Power for the Powerful

Share

I saw the picture on page B1 of The Times of Christina Thomas of Sausalito, who’s on 24-hour oxygen for emphysema and is being threatened with power shut-off because she’s behind in her payments by $900 (“Paying for Power a Struggle for Some,” June 8).

Then on page B4, I read where state Sen. Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica) is sponsoring a bill that would give Universal City a break on its utilities because of safety concerns (“Universal May Get a Break on Electricity Bills”). Seems that it would be a real tragedy if their visitors were to be temporarily stranded on their rides in the event of a power outage.

So can someone tell me: What’s wrong with this picture?

Can you please publish a list of the state senators who voted to allow Universal Studios to arbitrarily switch power companies? I want to make sure to vote them out of office at the next election.

My husband and I own a store on the Promenade in Santa Monica. Please give me the phone number of who to contact to also switch companies. We and other struggling, independent businesses are amazed that a giant conglomerate like Universal would get an unheard of break while the rest of us get stuck footing the bill.

This has to be the biggest slap in the face in the nearly 10 years I’ve had the misfortune of owning a business in the city of Santa Moscow.
