Update--The Galaxy, coming off a 4-0 victory over the MLS champion Kansas City Wizards, will be without four starters when it takes on the season’s most successful team. Forward Luis Hernandez and midfielder Simon Elliott are on World Cup qualifying duty with Mexico and New Zealand, respectively; defender Danny Califf is serving a one-game suspension for accumulated yellow cards; and winger Cobi Jones is sidelined by a groin strain. A victory would make the Galaxy the first team in MLS history to win 100 regular-season games. U.S. Soccer’s executive committee has voted in favor of having Los Angeles’ planned new stadium in Carson serve as the official training center for all U.S. national teams. The Galaxy announced that it will play the A-League’s Nashville Metros in the second round of the 2001 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 27 at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Stadium. Nick Garcia, the Kansas City player who gave the Galaxy’s Brian Ching a forearm to the throat after Ching scored in Wednesday’s game, was suspended for one game and fined $500 by MLS.
