3 Firefighters Die, 15 Injured in Blaze
A five-alarm fire and explosions in a hardware store Sunday toppled the building’s roof and brick facade, killing three firefighters and injuring more than 50 other people, authorities said.
Harry Ford, 50, Brian Fahey, 46, and John Downing, 40, died after a pair of explosions brought down the building’s roof and facade and buried them. A fourth firefighter, Joseph Vosilla, 41, was in critical condition at a hospital.
About 20 minutes after firefighters arrived, propane tanks and paint stored in the basement exploded, fire officials said.
