From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore, film crew in tow, asked the Chino City Council Tuesday to pass a resolution stating that a local handgun manufacturer is not welcome there.

Moore, who directed “Roger and Me,” said the company, Davis Industries, produced a .32-caliber handgun that was used by a 6-year-old boy in Moore’s hometown of Flint, Mich., to kill a first-grade classmate. “I know you need businesses here. I know you need jobs,” Moore said. “But not at the expense of the lives of children.”

On Feb. 29, 2000, Moore said, the boy took the gun to class, pointed it at 6-year-old Kayla Rowland and pulled the trigger.
