‘Central Avenue’ to Benefit Historic Sites

Share

A benefit performance of “Central Avenue,” Stephen Sachs’ critically acclaimed play about Los Angeles’ 1940s black jazz scene, will be presented at the Fountain Theatre on Saturday at 8 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds will help support the Dunbar Economic Development Corp.’s efforts to preserve and maintain the landmark Dunbar Hotel and historic Central Avenue Corridor.

The Dunbar Hotel, now a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument, opened in 1926 and was host to legends Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and many others.
