Welding Torch Spark Ignites 15-Acre Fire

A brush fire sparked by a welding operation burned more than 15 acres near Lake Piru on Friday before being contained by about 155 firefighters and aircraft.
The fire began about 3 p.m. in the 2200 block of Piru Canyon Road when a spark from a welding torch ignited grass, said Joe Luna, a spokesman for the county Fire Department. No structures or campsites were threatened.
