Oxnard Budget Raises Spending by $5 Million
Oxnard officials have unveiled a $72-million spending plan that would give police nearly $1 million more than currently allocated and leaves housing and recreation spending about level.
The proposed budget for the next fiscal year represents a hike of $5 million from the current budget, as Oxnard anticipates increased revenues from taxes and fees.
The City Council held a public hearing Tuesday on the water, sewage and garbage portions of the budget. About $100,000 more than the current spending level could go to the water division, which will increase rates 6% on July 1.
The biggest budget increase is proposed for the Police Department, which could receive more than $28 million. Meanwhile, the fire and library departments could realize increases of about $200,000 each.
A public hearing on the police, fire, recreation and community services portions of the two-year spending plan will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers, 305 W. 3rd St.
