From Times Staff Reports

A judge hearing the conflict-of-interest case against Bell Gardens City Manager Maria Chacon warned Chacon on Thursday to control her supporters after prosecutors said their key witness was injured in a confrontation with one of her allies, the city’s mayor.

The admonishment comes two days after police opened an investigation into the incident between the prosecution’s witness, Rogelio Rodriguez, and Mayor Ramiro Morales. Rodriguez claims the mayor tried to run him over in his car. Morales denies the charges.

Chacon’s arraignment was postponed for two weeks so her defense team can prepare her case. Chacon, who was charged with one felony count earlier Tuesday, was placed on paid administrative leave by the City Council Wednesday.
