Not having been selected to play for Mexico against the U.S. on Sunday, Luis Hernandez can instead concentrate on playing for the Galaxy against the Burn in Dallas today.

That’s welcome news for Galaxy Coach Sigi Schmid, who believes Hernandez is blending better with the MLS team this season than last.

“I’ve felt very good about Luis being with the Galaxy this year,” he said. “He’s come in with a very good attitude. Our team knows what to expect, as well.

“I think that marriage has obviously been far more successful than it was last year, and it shows because his production at the same stage is much better than it was last year.”

Hernandez, who scored only four goals last season, already has that many this season.

The Galaxy will be missing forward Brian Mullan to injury, defensive midfielder Danny Pena to an accumulation of yellow cards and forward Cobi Jones to national team duty.

“Every week it’s been somebody else,” Schmid said. “I think we’ve shown that we have some depth and different people can step in.
