Performances to Grow On will present the David Taylor Dance Theatre, performing “Rainforest” on Friday at Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza’s Kavli Theatre. The two-act production--one of the company’s most popular and family-friendly touring productions since its 1995 premiere in Denver--is noted for its visual imagery, depicting the animals, plants, insects and indigenous people who live in the rain forest.

Afro-Centric Committee of Ventura County will present its seventh annual Afro-Centric Marketplace on Saturday in Simi Valley. The Black History Month celebration will include displays of African American-inspired jewelry, clothing, literature, educational materials and historical exhibits, plus continuous entertainment, including storytelling, dancing and music.

Voices

Los Robles Master Chorale, led by guest conductor Paul Salamunovich, will perform Saturday at Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The concert will mark one of the final appearances by the soon-to-retire Salamunovich, who is director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Joining in the performance will be the Los Robles Children’s Choir. Program: “Lux Aeterna” by Morten Lauridsen and Gabriel Faure’s Requiem.

Ventura Master Chorale, under the direction of Burns Taft, will perform Amy Beach’s mass in E flat Sunday in Ventura. The chorale will be joined by the Ventura College Community Orchestra. Featured chorale soloists will be soprano Karen Medrano, alto Linda Foster, tenor Kenneth Helms and bass Al Thayer.
