Chapman Falls in First Round

Wartburg bounced Chapman from the NCAA Division III women’s basketball West Region playoffs Wednesday, defeating the Panthers, 86-78, in a first-round game in Waverly, Iowa.

Chapman (17-9) lost a first-round game the last time it made the playoffs, in 1997.

Missy Bynon, who led the Panthers in scoring with 19 points, finished the season fourth in Division III free-throw percentage (87.7%) and 17th in assists (5.2 per game).

Kristy Jepsen scored 15 points for Chapman.

Wartburg, the Iowa Conference champion, is 24-4.
