Irvine Company Buys Data-Messaging Firm

Advanced Communications Technologies Inc. said Thursday it has emerged as the successful bidder for Orbcomm Global L.P., a satellite data-messaging business that has been in bankruptcy proceedings. Financial details were not disclosed.

Orbcomm, a joint venture between Orbital Sciences Corp. of Dulles, Va., and Teleglobe Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September.

The transaction must be approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, said Advanced Communications, an Irvine wireless communications company.
