Rocco, Valencia Nearly Perfect Against Moorpark
Tori Rocco of Valencia High pitched a no-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks in the first game of a nonleague softball doubleheader and the Vikings swept Moorpark by identical 1-0 scores Friday at Valencia.
It was the second no-hitter of the season for Rocco, who was denied a perfect game by an error in the seventh inning.
Ashley Herrera, who had two hits for Valencia (3-1), doubled and scored on a single by Lauren Watson in the sixth.
Verdugo Hills 5, Granada Hills 4--Danielle Burch singled home Jennifer Lombardo in the eighth inning to lift the visiting Dons (2-0) in a nonleague game.
El Camino Real 6, Calabasas 0--Melissa Coogan (2-1) struck out seven in a nonleague two-hitter for the Conquistadores at El Camino Real (2-1). Lindsay Goldblatt had a two-run single for the Conquistadores.
Oaks Christian 15, Buckley 1--Ashlee Freeman pitched a no-hitter and struck out 15 for the Lions (3-1) in a nonleague victory at Oaks Christian.
VOLLEYBALL
Highland def. Valencia 15-13, 15-10, 15-11--Trent Sorensen had 14 kills, 15 digs and five blocks in a nonleague victory for the Bulldogs (2-1).
Moorpark def. Thousand Oaks, 15-10, 15-7, 15-11--Cary Hanson had 31 kills and seven blocks to lead the Musketeers (4-0) to a Marmonte League victory at Moorpark.
Verdugo Hills def. Wilson, 15-12, 12-15, 15-4, 15-9--Kris Gupilan had 11 kills, seven digs, four blocks and four aces to lead the Dons to a nonleague, season-opening victory.
