San Clemente Beats El Dorado, 8-1

Ryan O’Day’s three-run homer in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and helped San Clemente defeat El Dorado, 8-1, in the championship game of the Loara baseball tournament Saturday at Glover Stadium.

Billy Pinney (2-0) pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven, and Chase Stroupe and Todd Greco added RBI singles in a four-run seventh for the Tritons (5-0).

In the third-place game:

Canyon 13, Villa Park 4--Canyon (4-1) broke a 4-4 tie with nine runs in the sixth inning. Center fielder Rocky Roquet hit two home runs, walked once and knocked in four runs.

Anthony Duarte also hit a home run, scored two runs and was three for four with two RBIs.

In consolation games:

Cypress 5, Lakewood 4--Rusty Murray’s sacrifice fly with one out in the seventh scored Scott Moore with the winning run for Cypress (4-1). Jason Filarey hit a three-run home run and Murray followed with a home run to tie the game in the sixth for Cypress.

Irvine 10, Woodbridge 9--Keith Williams’ infield hit in the bottom of the seventh drove in Dan Beuchat with the winning run for the Vaqueros (4-1).

In the semifinals of the Costa Mesa/Foothill tournament:

Costa Mesa 2, Newport Harbor 1--Kevin DeSandro singled home Anthony Grubisich in the bottom of the seventh, giving Costa Mesa the victory.

Costa Mesa will play Mater Dei in the championship game March 19.

Mater Dei 6, Capistrano Valley 2--Catcher Richard Mercado was two for three with a two-run home run in the third inning for Mater Dei (4-0).

In consolation games:

Katella 5, Fountain Valley 0--Phil Tyson pitched a five-hitter and walked one for visiting Katella (3-2). David Alcantar had two RBIs for the Knights.

Sonora 6, Foothill 5 (8)--Jon Muramoto’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth scored Dennis Anderegg from second base with the winning run.

In the championship game of the Montebello tournament:

Westminster 4, Montebello 3--Freddie Rodriguez tripled in Chris Kennison with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give Westminster (4-0) the victory.

In the third-place game:

Orange 7, Whittier Pioneer 2--Brian Gadberry homered and drove in four runs and John Medina had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs for the Panthers (3-1). Pioneer is 2-2.
