Benicio Del Toro was named best male actor in a leading role of a theatrical motion picture for “Traffic,” and Julia Roberts won best female actor for “Erin Brockovich” at the seventh annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night.

Over the last six years, the winner of the SAG Award for best male actor has gone on to win the Academy Award in that same category. But that streak was broken Sunday, because Del Toro was nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar for his role as a Mexican cop in the Steven Soderbergh drug thriller.

“Traffic” also picked up the SAG Award for best cast in a theatrical motion picture. Veteran Albert Finney won for best supporting male actor for his role in “Erin Brockovich,” and Dame Judi Dench received best supporting female actor for “Chocolat.”
