Senior Michelle Perry and freshman Jessica Cosby each helped UCLA win its second consecutive women’s title Saturday in the NCAA indoor track and field championships at Arkansas.

Cosby, a high school All-American in the shotput for Cleveland last year, placed fifth on Friday with a career best of 53-5.

Perry, a 1997 graduate of Quartz Hill, was fifth in the 60-meter high hurdles with a time of 8.25 on Saturday after clocking a career-best 8.22 in her qualifying heat on Friday.

UCLA defeated runner-up South Carolina, 53 1/2-40.

The top eight finishers in each event earned points on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

Lauren Fleshman of Stanford finished third in the women’s mile in the NCAA championships to earn All-American honors for the sixth time.

Fleshman, a sophomore from Canyon High who ran 4:43.52 in the NCAA meet, has earned All-American honors twice in cross-country, once in outdoor track and three times in indoor track.

Dee Scott and Frances Santin of Cal State Northridge failed to score a point in the NCAA meet but earned All-American honors by being among the top eight U.S.-born finishers in their events.

Scott, a sophomore, placed 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 42-1 1/4 but was seventh among U.S.-born competitors.

Santin, a junior, failed to qualify for the final of the 800, but her fourth-place clocking of 2:09.24 in her heat made her the seventh-fastest U.S. born runner in the preliminaries.

She had the 11th-fastest time overall.
