Last year: Tiger Woods won the third of his nine 2000 tour titles, beating Davis Love III by four strokes.
* Last week: Sweden’s Jesper Parnevik won the Honda Classic in Coral Springs, Fla., topping Mark Calcavecchia, Australia’s Geoff Ogilvy and New Zealand’s Craig Perks by a stroke.
* Notes: Woods has not had a top-three finish in five 2001 PGA Tour starts and is winless in eight official tour events since the Canadian Open in September. Two weeks ago in Dubai, he closed with a double bogey to finish two strokes behind Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn. . . . The Players Championship is next week, followed by the BellSouth Classic and the Masters. . . . Tournament host Arnold Palmer has attracted 10 of the top 11 players in the world. * Last year: Sweden’s Charlotta Sorenstam ended Karrie Webb’s season-opening winning streak, beating the Australian star by two strokes at the Legacy. Webb began the year with four LPGA victories and also won the Women’s Australian Open.
* Last week: Annika Sorenstam successfully defended her Welch’s-Circle K title in Tucson. The Swedish star closed with a seven-under 65 for a six-shot victory and tournament-record 23-under 265 total.
* Notes: Webb and Sweden’s Sophie Gustafson are coming off victories in Australia. Webb won the Australian Ladies Masters for the fourth consecutive year, and Gustafson edged Webb by a stroke Sunday in the Women’s Australian Open. Gustafson also topped Webb in the LPGA’s Naples, Fla., event in January. . . . England’s Laura Davies won the tournament from 1994-97 to join Gene Sarazen and Walter Hagen as the only players to win a major tour event four consecutive years. . . . The Nabisco Championship, the first major tournament of the year, is next week in Rancho Mirage.

* Last week: Jim Colbert became the 10th player to win a Senior PGA Tour event at 60 or older, beating Spain’s Jose Maria Canizares by a stroke in the SBC Classic at Valencia.
* Notes: Jack Nicklaus designed the Coyote Creek course. He is making his fifth start of the year as he prepares for the Masters. . . . The Emerald Coast Classic is next week in Milton, Fla., followed by the Legends of Golf in St. Augustine, Fla.
