From Times Wire Reports

NASA’s warning of a possible collision with a speeding piece of space junk that sent the international space station scrambling for a higher orbit turned out to be a false alarm.

Astronauts used thrusters on the space shuttle Discovery, which is docked with the space station, to boost the orbit by about 10 miles.

Mission Control’s worry was a shoebox-sized piece of hardware lost on a spacewalk earlier this week.
