Woman, 71, Drowns in Golf Cart Accident
A 71-year-old Illinois woman drowned on a golf course when the electric cart she was driving veered off a steep slope into a pond.
Margaret Scott did not know how to swim and the cart sank quickly in the water hazard at the Landings Yacht Golf & Tennis Club in Fort Myers. Her husband, Maurice, and other golfers were unable to rescue her.
Sheriff’s Deputy Larry King said Maurice Scott had just hit a chip shot to the green on the seventh hole when he motioned for his wife to move the cart.
Margaret Scott of Park Ridge was sitting on the passenger’s side and lost control of the cart.
The medical examiner was conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
