KEYS TO THE GAME

* STYLE OF PLAY: Boston College has a smallish lineup that depends on quickness and hustle. The Eagles will use a full-court press on occasion but would rather frustrate teams by playing man-to-man. The Trojans again will go more to a halfcourt game offensively and see if their zone defenses bother Boston College as much as Southern Utah’s did.

* MATCHUP TO WATCH: Jeff Trepagnier vs. Troy Bell. Expect USC Coach Henry Bibby to have Trepagnier smother Bell the same way he did Oklahoma State’s Maurice Baker, but Bell also has a better chance of staying with Trepagnier’s above-the-rim game than Baker did.

* INTANGIBLES: David Bluthenthal rebounded from a scoreless game against Oregon State with a career-high 29 points against Oregon. USC would welcome a repeat performance.

* MAGIC NUMBERS: Boston College is small, but the Trojans have to respect the fact that the Eagles averaged the same number of rebounds per game (36) in the regular season that the Trojans did. USC must also remember the Eagles average almost 20 three-point shots a game, with 36% accuracy.

* FINAL ANALYSIS: Boston College is the Big East champion, but the conference was down this season. The Pacific 10 was not. The Trojans should move on to the Sweet 16.
