McClinton is a master of roots, but he’s no curator. In his hands, honky-tonk and blues are lively and droll, with tales tall and low on faded love and the road. On “Nothing Personal,” the Nashville-based singer offers his gravelly ruminations with a looseness and warmth reminiscent of the late Doug Sahm. From the slinky barroom boogie of “All Night Long” to the painful, straight-ahead blues of “All There Is of Me,” McClinton makes it very personal.
