Cheer for Children, an all-volunteer group that brings holiday cheer to acutely ill and orthopedically handicapped South Bay children, needs volunteers for various functions. Information: Pam Edwards at (310) 540-2494.

* Western Medical Center in Santa Ana needs volunteers to serve as receptionists in the main lobby, greet visitors in the emergency waiting room, offer beverages and assist on the nursing units. An orientation class will be held March 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Information: (714) 953-3450.

* Methodist Hospital in Arcadia needs volunteers for its new comfort care program. The program, which is designed to complement the more technological aspects of patient care, includes reading to patients, listening to them and assisting with meal trays.
