Greed Hits Home

* As a Latino religious leader I am deeply disappointed that Michael Ramirez has chosen to pick on another person of color to highlight the issues of greed and selfishness (“Free Gary Sheffield Jersey Night at Dodger Stadium,” editorial cartoon, Commentary, March 14). Would that he could point his poisoned pen in the direction of corporate greed instead.
When you add all of the salaries of the 100 best-paid athletes you still come short of uncovering the real greedy and dangerous people in America. How about a cartoon that depicts the fact that CEOs on the average make almost 500 times the salary of the common worker? Or another cartoon illustrating the fact that the average salary of the CEO of an HMO is over $7 million? Gary Sheffield makes his money hitting, fielding and striking out; the HMO CEO makes his huge salary striking down treatments and paring down medicine lists that could save lives.
