Cabrillo Music Theatre will open “The Secret Garden” on Friday at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The Broadway hit is based on the classic children’s book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which follows a young girl’s discovery of a garden and the ensuing renewal of hope and love for her family.

Trains

The sixth annual Fillmore Spring Rail Festival will return this weekend to Central Park. Festivities for the “2001: A Train Odyssey”-themed event will include model railroad exhibits, miniature train rides, antique tractors, barbecue, live music and more. Activities at the festival site are free. The Fillmore & Western Railway will offer train rides for a charge. Proceeds benefit the Santa Clara River Valley Railroad Historical Society.

Ballet

Channel Islands Ballet will stage its eclectic “Choreography: Dance Me a Story” at venues in Ventura and Thousand Oaks, starting this weekend. The program will feature works by several choreographers, including George Balanchine (“Valse Fantaisie”), Marius Petipa (“Don Quixote”), Yves de Bouteiller (“Clair de Lune” and “Peter and the Wolf”) and Mark Dendy (“Ritual”). The production will first be performed at Ventura College, followed by shows at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

Piano

The Thousand Oaks branch of the American Assn. of University Women will host a benefit recital Sunday in Westlake Village, featuring pianists Barbara D’Addario and Sofia Cosma. The program will include works by Mozart, Gounod, Strauss, Rachmaninoff and Bizet. Proceeds benefit the AAUW’s Legal Advocacy Fund and Educational Foundation.
