Essence magazine celebrated its first Hollywood issue and star style Monday night with a blowout party at Deep in Hollywood. Sighted: editor Monique Greenwood, Johnnie Cochran and Taye Diggs.

There was a load of personal style at the Costume Designers Guild’s annual awards gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel Saturday. Rita Ryack, who snagged a statuette for “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” wore a 1950s-style navy blue dress she designed, with a print of menorahs and Stars of David. Kathleen Detoro, nominated for “Ally McBeal,” wore a low-cut black gown and matching taffeta coat with rosebuds cascading down a dramatic train.
