* ConAgra Foods Inc.’s fiscal third-quarter earnings fell 31% to $98.5 million, or 19 cents a share, reflecting higher energy costs and a slowing farm economy. The results matched analyst forecasts that had been revised down from 44 cents after ConAgra issued a profit warning last month. The company, a major meatpacker and the maker of such broad-ranging products as Armour meats, Blue Bonnet margarine and crop fertilizer, said revenue rose 9% to $6.43 billion.

* Red Hat Inc., the top U.S. provider of Linux operating system software, reported a net loss of $600,000, or break even per share, for the fiscal fourth quarter, as revenue more than doubled to $27 million from $13.1 million. Analysts were expecting a loss of 1 cent. The report sent Red Hat shares up 29% to $6.75 in after-hours trading. The shares, which had fallen 91% in the last year, had closed unchanged at $5.22 on Nasdaq. In the year-ago quarter, Red Hat had a loss of $5.6 million, or 4 cents a share.

* WebMD Corp. said its fourth-quarter loss widened to $51.8 million, or 14 cents a share, from $47.5 million, or 40 cents, a year ago. Revenue climbed to $199.0 million from $33.2 million. Analysts on average were expecting a loss of 16 cents.
