Tax Assistance

Share

Free tax preparation assistance is available for low-income families and individuals as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and a service of the American Assn. of Retired Persons.

Trained students and volunteers will work alongside program supervisors who are familiar with new tax laws. The service is available to people whose income was less than $40,000 in 2000. Specialized services are available for senior citizens, non-English speakers and the disabled.

Taxpayers are asked to bring their 2000 W-2 forms, the tax booklet they received in the mail, interest dividend statements and records for deductions, and a copy of their 1999 tax returns.

The service is limited to the 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ federal and 540, 540A and 540EZ state forms. Volunteers do not prepare estimated taxes, business-related forms or nonresident forms.
