William Hanna

I read with a great deal of sadness William Hanna’s obituary (March 23). Of course, much will be made of the fact that he is a legend in the industry and all that, but in the end, these things totally miss the real point of his career.

The real point of his work has been the endless hours of joy and innocent mirth he helped bring me and countless others. And then there is the joy that I feel when I watch my own little boy, as he watches the old Tom and Jerry cartoons, Scooby Doo, the Flintstones and all the others that I grew up with. Hanna’s work truly transcends generations, and we are all poorer for his passing.
