Santa Ana Swamps Orange Coast, 17-0

Santa Ana scored 10 runs in the first three innings, including three home runs, to rout Orange Coast, 17-0, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday at Orange Coast.

Anthony Gonzales led off the second with a homer and five batters later, Tony Alcantar hit a grand slam. David Fischer hit a three-run home run in the third inning.

The Dons scored another run in the fifth, two in the seventh and four more in the ninth in improving their record to 21-4 overall and 11-2 in the conference. Santa Ana starter Joe Rodgers (6-1) went seven innings, allowing three singles and striking out eight.

In another conference game:

Cypress 8, Golden West 7--Daylon Monette had three hits and two RBIs and scored two runs to lead Cypress (19-9, 7-6).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 8, Riverside 1--Arif Hasan and Jon Lippert each won their singles sets and teamed to win a doubles match for visiting Saddleback (19-1, 8-0), which clinched the conference championship.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Saddleback 6, Riverside 3--Lena Bowen, playing No. 2 singles, swept her sets, 6-1, 6-3, and helped Saddleback to a co-championship with Orange Coast.
