Gonzalo Rubalcaba Trio (Catalina Bar & Grill, 1640 N. Cahuenga Blvd., L.A., [323] 466-2210). The 37-year-old Cuban-born pianist has received substantial praise in the jazz world in the past decade. Through Sat., 8:30 and 10:30 p.m.; Sun., 7:15 and 9:15 p.m.

Stephen Kovacevich (Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 135 N. Grand Ave., L.A., [323] 850-8000). The American pianist plays a Beethoven program consisting of the Sonatas: in D minor, Opus 31, No. 2; in A, Opus 101; in C minor, Opus 111, and excerpts from the Bagatelles, Opus 119. 8 p.m.

Theater
