Wild Blue Yonder: On Friday, I would go in the afternoon with an Israeli friend of mine, Deddy Tzur, who’s a pilot--and also a composer here. He’s got a pilot’s license, and we would go up in his Cessna from Santa Monica Airport for a little tour around town.

Dinner for Two: In the evening, I’d go to a restaurant with my wife, Rhonda Tollefson-Fehr. We’ve been married since December. A place we like that’s very sweet is Cafe Pinot on 5th Street. A friend of ours recommended it, and it was very nice. And then we’d go to the Music Center for some theater. We saw “Death of a Salesman” there last year, and actually met at the L.A. Opera at a dinner for opening night of “Samson and Delilah.”

Eating Well: The next morning, we’d wake up early and go for breakfast in Venice. The 26 Beach Cafe is the place a friend likes to take me to, and there’s a place on Washington called Cafe Marguerite, where they have special omelets every time that are really good.

Quick Cruise: My wife and I love going hiking, so one of the best things we’ve done is go with Arthur Grace, another friend who’s a photographer, and take his boat to sail to Catalina. It’s about a four-hour sail, and it’s the most wonderful thing. We go to the back of the island and stay in this quiet harbor overnight, cook on the boat and go hiking in the afternoon. We come back at 8 a.m. the next morning, and if you have good weather, you see hundreds of dolphins, which is the most inspirational thing. It really makes you feel you’re a part of nature.

Nice Balance: To get a bit of energy, my wife and I practice hapkido, a type of martial arts that gives you a great sense of balance somehow. Both the physical workout of it--which is fantastic--and the spiritual side of it.
