Subway Scenario

* While I agree with “Putting Westside on Rails” (editorial, April 28), I can’t believe that the top priority is for a line essentially along an existing freeway. While I’m sure this project has its merits, what is desperately needed is a line that runs where no freeway exists--namely through densely populated Hollywood, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills to Century City, Westwood and, finally, Santa Monica. This could be accomplished by branching off from the existing subway station at Hollywood/Highland. In my opinion, they should never stop digging until we have a system the size of London’s--also a sprawling megalopolis, but one in which one can easily get around without a car. The initiative that stopped subway construction in Los Angeles was one of the most shortsighted decisions I have ever witnessed.
