A bomb exploded outside an ancient mosque in western Afghanistan, killing an exiled Iranian cleric and at least seven other people and injuring scores more, a Taliban official said.

Maulvi Mohammed Mussa, a Sunni Muslim cleric, was killed in Herat, along with another Iranian believed to be the bomber, provincial Gov. Khairullah Khaikhwa said.

The Taliban regime accused Iran of being behind the bombing. Iran, however, denied any involvement.
