Disneyland Checks Trees After Oak Accident
Disneyland horticulturists are examining trees throughout the theme park after a freak accident Friday in which a large cork oak collapsed, injuring 27 people.
Although two employees suffered minor injuries, the incident was not reported to the Cal/OSHA, the agency that investigates workplace injuries, because the injuries were not serious enough to merit investigation under state guidelines, park spokesman Ray Gomez said.
OSHA officials agreed.
The tree collapsed in Frontierland near the Rivers of America and the Golden Horseshoe Revue, sending 18 people to local hospitals.
None was seriously hurt.
The tree was removed Friday night and Frontierland reopened Saturday. Park officials do not know why the tree fell, but said high winds Thursday may have contributed.
