Anderson Propels Laguna Hills

Host Laguna Hills clinched a share of the Sea View League title Tuesday when Brian Anderson hit two home runs for the second game in a row and propelled the Hawks to a 4-2 victory over eighth-ranked Irvine.

Laguna Hills (15-10, 11-5) closed the regular season by beating a ranked opponent for the second consecutive game and by knocking off defending league champion Irvine (17-7, 10-5) for the third time in four meetings this season.

“We made the playoffs and our second goal was to win league,” Anderson said. “There’s nothing like winning a championship, especially in this tough league.”

Justin Hallenbeck started things off for Laguna Hills by drilling an 0-2 pitch from Derek Smith for a home run to lead off the first inning. With one out in the third and Chris Turner on first because of an error, Anderson hit his first home run to make it 3-0.

Chad Hazlett, who went four for four, hit a two-run home run in the fifth to pull Irvine to within a run, but Anderson hit his second home run in the bottom of the inning.
