In the Sunset League:

Marina 3, Fountain Valley 1--Bree Boyer faced the minimum 15 batters in five innings of two-hit relief and Heather Saltarelli had two hits, drove in a run and scored two runs to help the visiting Vikings clinch the league’s final automatic playoff berth.

The victory clinched third place for the Vikings (14-13, 5-5), who could have faced a three-way playoff with Edison and Huntington Beach if league champion Fountain Valley (23-7, 8-2) had won. Fountain Valley now shares the league title with Esperanza.

Boyer (5-1), who retired 11 in a row at one point, relieved Marina ace Ramona Garcia, who gave up one run in two innings after pitching all 13 innings in a 1-0 loss to Huntington Beach on Tuesday.

Boyer gave up two singles, but catcher Lacy Unkovich threw out Fountain Valley’s Jenny Doezie trying to steal second in the third inning and Jackie Brown’s leadoff single in the seventh was erased by a double play, started by Boyer.

Garcia and Jamie McGraw both had RBI singles for the Vikings.
