Somewhere on the Trip, We Fell Off the Track

The Times’ reporting of last Saturday’s USC-UCLA track meet was somewhere between inadequate and abysmal. It’s no wonder the following of track and field is waning when you bury an event of major local interest on the back pages.
The meet itself was an exciting, well-run affair that received about the same attention as the English soccer scores. If they have to hold a funeral for track and field in this town, The Times sports section has played the role of Dr. Kevorkian.
