From Times Staff Reports

A 20-year-old woman was killed early Saturday when her disabled car was struck by another vehicle on the northbound San Diego Freeway in Seal Beach, leading to a four-vehicle pileup. The California Highway Patrol believes the woman’s car may have been stalled because it had already struck a fifth vehicle that had left the scene.

CHP officer Charles Metzler said the victim was driving a Geo Metro, its front end badly damaged and stalled sideways across two lanes when it was struck about 3 a.m. by a Toyota truck. The impact ejected the woman from the vehicle, Metzler said. Within moments, another Toyota and a Honda Civic piled up in the crash. One driver told the CHP officer that she tried to stop once she saw the stalled vehicle in the lane ahead of her, but it was too late.

The incident led to traffic backing up for miles in both directions.

The woman was identified by the Orange County coroner’s office as Anna Meyer of Long Beach. No other serious injuries were reported.
