This Is Her Twentynine Palms, Welcoming, Safe and Beautiful

Share

The Twentynine Palms that I live in doesn’t resemble Deanne Stillman’s description and, indeed, is so different that I can only assume that her comments were the result of having been in the sun too long (“Deconstructing Paradise,” April 8). She has made a lot of very nice people up here hopping mad! This is a town where people speak to you everywhere you go. The Marines are a welcome, polite and helpful presence in the community. It’s a place with a sense of history that people want to maintain, and it includes retirees, artists, families, single people and the military. The bus driver will take you directly to your door if there is a need or the weather warrants. It’s a place of great beauty, where wildlife can be seen and enjoyed by all. People can still afford to buy a house here--with acreage, and many do not feel the need to lock their doors. My husband and I moved here to get away from all of the problems that Stillman says we possess in abundance.
