One-China Policy Harms Taiwan

Share

Re “Engage a China in Broad Evolution,” Commentary, May 7: Thomas Metzger indicated that the crisis in Chinese-Taiwanese relations has been caused by Taipei’s refusal to honor the one-China policy. Thus, he said that Taipei is seeking to base its security not on finding a consensus with China but on becoming an American protectorate. As such, it becomes part of an intrusion into Chinese sovereignty.

The one-China principle is to have Taiwan ruled by Communist China--a poor country ruled by a dictator. Taiwan is a democratic country, and the people now enjoy a prosperous life. The Taiwanese do not want to be ruled by Communist China. The crisis is caused by China intimidating Taiwan, with hundreds of missiles facing that island. Communist China has never set foot on Taiwan. China does not have any sovereignty over Taiwan. Please do not push Taiwan to accept the one-China principle, which would make Taiwan surrender to China. Taiwan needs help from America.
