A terminal at Baltimore-Washington International Airport was evacuated for three hours after two men tried to carry souvenir grenades past a security check, authorities said.

The men tried to board an international flight with a carry-on bag containing 11 hollowed-out grenades bought at a flea market. They were stopped at a checkpoint by security guards.

The guards were told that the grenades were harmless souvenirs, but they evacuated the terminal.

“We do not ever take chances,” BWI spokeswoman Betsey Sanpere said. “We’re sorry that it inconvenienced people, but we would not do it any other way.”
