Hufford Receives Public Service Award
Ventura County’s former chief administrative officer, Harry Hufford, has been awarded the Earl Warren Public Service Award.
The award, presented by the Los Angeles chapter of the American Society for Public Administration, is given to civic leaders who have made an “outstanding, sustained contribution to good movement in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.”
Other recipients include former president and former California Gov. Ronald Reagan, former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, the late Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block and retired Los Angeles Times Publisher Otis Chandler.
Ventura County Chief Administrative Officer Johnny Johnston accepted the award last week for Hufford, who is out of the country on vacation. Hufford served as chief administrator for Los Angeles County from 1974 to 1985 and worked as interim chief administrative officer in Ventura County from December 1999 to March.
He retired from public service April 1.
